Monsterpocalypse

Is anyone else as psyched about Monsterpocalypse as I am?

At first I thought the idea was kind of silly, but having checked their website periodically (http://monsterpocalypsegame.com) over the past couple months, I can’t help but get excited (it is Privateer Press, after all).

It’s supposed to release this fall. Was anyone else planning on playing? Is there anything special planned for its release?

I’m leaning towards the “Martian Menace” faction based on looks alone…

Looks cool

I think it looks like alot of fun but unless it is PPP I probably wont get into it I just don't have the time to paint another army.

Shadow syndicate looks sweat though.

When they first announced it

When they first announced it they were going with a all pre-painted line. I'm not sure if they have changed their minds since then...

It is indeed fully

It is indeed fully pre-painted. One of the Press Gangers recorded a demo by one of the Privateer Press staff at Comic Con.

It looks like it is a fun game, but I don't have any plans to get into a collectable miniatures game. I did MechWarrior for a few years, and I've gotten hooked on Warmachine/Hordes since then.

Random?

So this is going to be another Random booster box game? If so very disapointed. I will probably look for singles somewhereNo more crack for me.

I think that's why there

I think that's why there isn't really any buzz among our Tuesday night Warmachine/Hordes players. At least a few of us have done the collectable miniatures game (MechWarrior in a few cases), I know I don't want to do another collectable game.

Yup, as soon as I heard

Yup, as soon as I heard "random", it pretty much shut down any interest for me...  Mechwarrior killed my interest there, and if the pieces could be used in another game, like say Hordes, I'd still have been interested, but...  :-)  Now, the Mutant Chronicles might be different, WarZone was one of those old Target games we played in the old days, and I still have a bunch of the old cards, etc...  If nothing else, it will be like the Star Wars starships I have, another "nifty" army to sit on a shelf and watch over my computer at home...

Looked cool

Yea i looked at Mutant chronicles when they went to non random boosters. I thought I maight use them to put an army together and also use them a Space marines but the specialty dice killed some of my interest in the game. The mechanics look good though.

Starter Kits

I saw it at GENCON and my wife thinks it looks fun so I prolly gonna get two starter kits. Our time is pretty limited (too many sweet games to play) so I prolly wont get too many boosters later.

This is a good game

Lots of replies to this post have pointed out that it is another blind purchase CMG.  This is true and that really sucks.  I purchased 3 monster figures to start and two of them were the same.  That pissed me off.  I should hate this game, but . . .

I don't.  Even though I only have three different monsters now, I've gotten hours and hours of fun out of this game.  It has a good battle system, and depends less on luck than other games.  It has an action dice system that allows you to conserve action to take additional turns with your monster figures.  This avoids the typical turn by turn initiative roll that can make other games dependant on one roll.

Also, there are a wide variety of skills, abilities, reactions, and moves for each monster and unit.  In addition there are five power actions every monster can do in addition to blast and brawl attacks.  This means that there are many many options each turn and no two games are ever alike.  Strategy is partially dependant on a good knowlege of the rules (this aint no kids game) but otherwise it is a very strategic game.

Privateer press has been sending out one-of a kind monster forms and prizes to area dealers for tournaments (all u gotta do is ask in advance) and a second wave of figures is due out in March.  I'd like to see some tournaments closer to home.  If anyone is interested in getting tournament play started, I'd be interested in helping out.
