Hey all...

Armored Gopher Games is now working on getting Friday Night Magic sanctioning!!!

To get Friday Night Magic into Armored Gopher Games, we have to hold a number of events that garner at least 30 unique DCI/WPN numbers in a four month period. That march continues tonight!

Tonight's event is a booster draft using cards from Conflux, WorldWake, and M10 (one pack of each).

Details

  • The cost for this event will be $14.00.
  • Prize support will be packs of WorldWake, divided out based on the number of players there are.
  • Players keep what they draft.
  • The format will be multi-round Swiss-style. There will be no single-elimination drafts here at the Gopher. EVER.
  • WPN Event Sactioning Number: 10-03-2219519

Beyond that... leave a comment below to officially sign up.

Wacky Format

I'm a bit unsure about the wacky draft format.  If that's what's popular at the store then awesome, but I'm usually interested in more traditional block draft formats than something like M10-Conflux-Worldwake.

Understood...

And typically, our first draft of the month is a more "standard" format. The second draft of the month, we like to mix things up a little.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that people can play a "standard" draft anywhere that runs sanctioned Magic: the Gathering events, and that running standard events constantly would give people less of a reason to make the trip out to Armored Gopher specifically. It's the oddball drafts that make drafting M:tG at Armored Gopher FUN. Just ask anyone who's participated in one.

That being said, if and when we finally get FNM sanctioning, and we can jockey the schedule around to hold weekly drafts, then we will look at changing the draft pace up a bit. The oddball drafts will then be relegated to the last Friday of the month, with the other Fridays doing standard drafts.

Consequently though, if the playing atmosphere gets too heavy and competitive here, with bad sportsmanship and spiteful trash-talking running rampant like I've seen happen in MANY other scenes and stores, then we'll pull back on the more competitive "standard" drafts and run more *FUN* events. Because, that's our main goal here at Armored Gopher Games. To provide a community atmosphere where people have FUN playing games. Life stresses people out enough...  our hobby shouldn't add to it all. =)

peace... GopherDave

Magic players would NEVER do that...
